Performance
WIth the release
of VIA's AGP GART driver version 4.02, the ASUS P3V4X leaps back
to the top of the pack in all performance categories.

Price
ASUS has traditionally
priced their boards slightly above that of comparable boards, but
it has traditionally been justified by higher quality components.
Nothing has changed with the P3V4X as it costs a bit more than the
other VIA Apollo Pro 133A boards we've seen. ASUS could have reduced
the cost a bit by going with the highly integrated VIA 686A South
Bridge, which would have reduced the chip count and saved PCB space.

Stability
The ASUS P3V4X
was easily the most stable board in our recent VIA
Apollo Pro 133A
Roundup
and ranks up there with the most stable boards we've ever tested.
With its plethora of overclocking options, rock solid stability
can also be maintained when overclocking.

Quality
The name ASUS
has always been associated with clearly superior quality not only
in their selection of components, but in the quality of the finished
product as well. The P3V4X follows closely in this age old ASUS
tradition of quality above all.

Features
ASUS went all
out here
and threw in pretty much everything we could ask for - 6 PCI slots,
4 DIMM slots, AGP 4X support, 32 FSB speeds, both jumpered and jumperless
CPU configurations, as well as adjustable CPU core voltage.
There's really
not much more we could ask for. The VIA 686A Super South Bridge
with it's two additional USB ports would be nice and a few more
tweaking options in the BIOS certainly wouldn't hurt.

Layout
The P3V4X's
layout is acceptable, but not exceptional as it does have a couple
of flaws. The ATX power connector is placed behind
the Slot-1 connector and the FDD port is out in front of the expansion
slots.

Availability
ASUS boards
are typically relatively easy to find among online, and even local,
retailers. Don't expect to find them at something like a Best Buy
or Circuit City, but many smaller local shops will have them. Besides,
since it's so easy to find online, there's always a fall back.

Documentation
& Software Bundle
The P3V4X's
user's manual was excellent and the bundled drivers included everything
necessary for proper setup of the board.

The specifications about ASUS P3V4X aren't completed correct because it supports memory 1GB modules so that you can upgrade it until 4GB not 2GB as described here. The operative system can manage 3GB because it needs to use some addresses for the hardware that's because I've been using 3 memory ECC modules of 1GB, total 3GB. The system works perfectly with Windows 7 Professional 32 bit and the latest BIOS upgrade 1006.004.Still_Using_p3v4x - Sunday, August 21, 2022 - link
I tried to go beyond 2GB of RAM and can confirm that the p3v4x will accept a 1GB module but when I put in 3 modules the tower beeped 3 times on startup and the startup graphics didn't display. Can you give me more details on how you made 3GB work? I would love to have that.jack89798 - Thursday, September 2, 2021 - link
